Every Word

I wish I still remembered that
What I wanted to say
I wish I still knew the story
That played in my mind that day
It weaved and it wondered
Teased my mind for hours
But reality called
I put the story on my mind’s shelf
And went about daily tasks
Now the moths have gotten it
Rotted it all out
What a shame that story
Lost in time
Lost by the tasks that piled like rime
If only a pen
And if only a paper
Were there in that moment
To stop such a caper
Instead of filing it away on the mind’s shelf
I could’ve written it down
And the story could tell
Of a little dragon
Wanting bigger wings
And his mother’s wisdom
She said just the right things
But that wisdom has faded
All lost to memory
And memory was eaten by time and tasks
I wish I still remembered that
When comes a story, seize the moment
For time is a vicious opponent
Take up the pen, your noble sword
And don’t let it be forgotten
Save every word
